This year may have been full of outstanding games, but The Witcher 3 is still widely regarded as one of the best games of all-time, and it certainly set the bar high for RPGs. It already looked gorgeous in 2015 running on a standard Xbox One, and now we know what to expect when it’s enhanced for the Xbox One X.
As part of their “Inside the Xbox One X Enhanced” series at Xbox Wire, Editor in Chief Will Tuttle and CD Projekt RED’s Jakub Kutrzuba discussed what upgrades The Witcher 3 will receive. Thanks to the consoles additional power, The Witcher 3 will run at 4K resolution with numerous visual tweaks like higher-quality shadows, ambient occlusion and texture filtering. The game will also experience a general all-around performance boost as well.
If you have yet to upgrade to a 4K display, the game running on Xbox One X will still look beautiful on a 1080p screen as it supersamples the image, giving it a higher quality than that of a standard 1080p image. Kutrzuba also said that this difference in quality will be noticeable.
While Kutrzuba was asked a question about what 4K and HDR means for his game, he stopped short of confirmed that The Witcher 3 would support HDR, simply saying, “With the technology becoming more widespread, 4K is looking like the next step for the gaming industry to achieve more in terms of visuals.”
If you have yet to play The Witcher 3, and you really should, you can pick up the Complete Edition for $49.99.
