Windows Phone to get Eurovision Song Contest app for the first time after Microsoft partnership

Eurovision has announced a Technology Partnership with Microsoft for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest which will see the Eurovision app coming to Windows Phone for the first time.

As the Technology Partner of the Eurovision Song Contest, Microsoft has been granted extensive pan-European media, association, event and new media rights for the upcoming events in Austria. Microsoft will play a key role in the development of the new Eurovision Song Contest app, as well as providing valuable support through technical solutions at the venues of the contest and equipping all event volunteers with smartphones.

“We welcome Microsoft on board the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest as the Technology Partner,” says Jon Ola Sand, the Executive Supervisor of the contest on behalf of the EBU. “With their help we will be able to lift the official mobile app to even greater heights and also for the first time, bring it to Windows Phone.”

“We are very proud to have been selected as official technology partner for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. This unique and most compelling event gives us the opportunity to show how our innovations and technologies work and build the backend for mobile services, data exchange and communication across the world. Microsoft Azure cloud services, Lumia smartphones and apps as well as our Yammer communication platform contribute best possible to facilitate things and make this event unforgettable for every participant,” says Georg Obermeier, General Manager of Microsoft Austria.

The 2015 Eurovision Song Contest is set to take place on the 19th, 21st and 23rd of May at the Wiener Stadthalle in Vienna, Austria. The shows will be co-produced by the Austrian EBU Member ORF and the EBU.
