Windows Phone now outselling the iPhone in 24 markets says Microsoft, up from 7 in March 2013

imageMicrosoft’s director of communications Christopher Flores, has told TechRadar that Windows Phone is now outselling the iPhone in 24 markets, and was the second-placed mobile operating system in 14.

The numbers are up from only 7 in March 2013, showing significant progress in only 9 months.

Microsoft indicated that most of these were Emerging markets, where phones are not subsidized, but said Microsoft intends to attack the smartphone market “from both ends” and would continue to release both high and low-end handsets after its purchase of Nokia’s handset division closes.

Microsoft claimed Windows Phone was the fastest growing mobile OS, and said it would elaborate more on the stats shortly.
