Windows Phone 8.1 Update 2 may include a “Quick text” feature

We’ve talked about 8.1.2 before and finally got a chance to play with it on a Lumia 640 and a Kyocera prototype device. While both devices ran GDR2, the Kyocera device had a slightly different version and indeed was running a rawer version of the OS.

One new feature we noticed on this and not on the 640 and 640 XL was the addition of Quick Text to the keyboard. Now on the Windows Phone Keyboard there is an always present button at the moment for copy and paste (it is hidden off to the side when not in use) in GDR2, there is a second button present there, the new quick text button.

Quick text is a setting that can be configured in Keyboard settings and allows you to pick a pre-defined phrase quickly and paste it into what we assume is any text input field. It worked in Internet Explorer and the messaging app, to use two examples.

While there are a few select phrases already added, the option to customize and add your own is present.

However, there is a big but here, this feature was only seen on the Kyocera device running a different build. It was not seen on the build of 8.1.2 on the Lumia 640 and 640 XL so it may either end up not being present in the build of 8.1.2 that ends up being pushed out to consumers (*~ahem developers), or it may come in a later update like 8.1.1.
