Windows Phone 7 To Launch In China late 2011

Microsoft is running on schedule to launch Windows Phone 7 across the world. As announced earlier by Microsoft, Windows Phone 7 was successfully(?) launched in US, Europe, Australia and few other places as well. During a speech in China Yang Tianyang, Microsoft’s communications sector director for the Greater China region announced that Windows Phone 7 will be launched in China in late 2011. Also Microsoft is in discussion with Chinese handset manufacturers Lenovo, ZTE and Huawei about producing Windows Phone 7 devices in China.

According to an analyst, Symbian is the market leader in China with about 54 million phones and interestingly Windows Mobile is the second player with 12.6 million install base. China’s smartphone market is growing fast, with sales of the devices expected to total 62 million units for 2010, compared to 21 million in 2009. With the launch of Android, iOS devices and upcoming WP7 devices in China I expect some drastic change in the smartphone market in China. Also I personally think Chassis 2 specs of WP7 which will be of lower cost will drive well in developing markets.
