Windows Maps receive another minor update in Windows Store

With the retirement of the Here Maps app for Windows Phone Microsoft’s own Windows Maps app has become more important.  The app has just been updated to version 5.1607.1831.  This minor update does not appear add any new features and comes without a new changelog.

App Features:

  • Search for addresses, businesses, restaurants, hotels, and local attractions.
  • Get driving, walking, and transit directions.
  • Pin your home, work, or other favorite places to Start for one-tap guided directions from anywhere.
  • Choose alternate routes to avoid things like traffic, tolls, or transfers in driving and transit directions.
  • Hear turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation on GPS-enabled devices.
  • When you arrive, let Maps help you remember where you parked your car.
  • Download maps to use them even without the Internet.
  • See your favorites and search history across all your Windows PCs and phones.
  • Explore the world in 3D with detailed imagery of more than 200 cities and landmarks.
  • See 360° panoramas of a place with Streetside views.
  • See current traffic, cameras, and incidents on the map and plan your trip accordingly.
  • See airport gates, shops, and more in indoor venue maps.
  • Get detailed business info like phone numbers, directions, addresses, business hours, and reviews.
  • Print and share step-by-step driving and walking directions.
  • Note: Some features may not be available on all devices and in all countries or regions.

The last major update added:

  • Multiple searches shown in tabs that you can minimise to reduce clutter
  • Improved voice-guided navigation with larger text that’s easier to read at a glance
  • Search added to 3D cities, so you don’t have to scroll to find the city that you want
  • Favourites now has notes, and you can keep them with you, even when you sign out
  • New layout on phones makes it easier to get to things such as search, directions and favourites
  • Search results are now directly labelled on the map so that you can see what’s what
  • New guided public transport directions let you know when it’s time to get off the bus
  • Improvements to algorithms for searching what’s nearby, with closer and better results
  • On phones, import any favourites that you saved in HERE apps
