Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 will not be able to run Universal Windows Apps

Just yesterday, we reported about the new improvements on Windows 8.1 RT Update 3. Microsoft previously stated that the company will be delivering an improved Start Menu and lock screen with Update 3. We also know that users won’t be able to run windowed apps with Update 3. Now, a Microsoft spokesperson told Mary Jo Foley that that Windows 8.1 RT Update 3 won’t be able to run Universal Windows Apps:

“Surface (RT, Surface 2 and third-party ARM-based Windows PCs and tablets) only run apps built for RT and not Universal Windows Apps. There are lots of apps that work on RT, so they’ll be able to continue to enjoy apps, games, music and movie content. “

Obviously, this is a major feature of Windows 10, and Microsoft expects developers to launch a lot of Universal Windows Apps for Windows 10 users. Unfortunately though, if you own a Windows RT device, you won’t be able to run Universal Windows Apps.

Nonetheless, tell us if you’d like to use Universal Windows Apps in the comment section below.

It’s worth noting that this has been reported previously, so nothing new to see here.
