Win CE ARM powered netbooks coming

wincenetbook Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski today has claimed her checks find Microsoft will introduce a version of Windows CE for ARM-based notebooks, “greatly expanding the opportunity for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chipset.”

Microsoft has previously explicitly said they are not planning to bring Windows 7 to the ARM platform, but have also said they do not plan to adapt Win CE to netbooks. Recent information about Win CE 7 however suggest the operating system will be pretty powerful, and will feature a Silverlight based graphics engine which will make netbooks based on the operating system extremely attractive.

While this may be and will certainly be seen as a response to Android on netbooks, we know from older presentations that Microsoft has been planning to extend the functionality and features of Win CE for some time.
