Will Nokia’s Indoor Navigation come to Windows Phone 7?

Nokia Research has been working on an indoor navigation system that uses highly accurate beacons which give 30 cm accuracy .

The video demo above shows the system in action,  and shows the phone switching automatically  from outdoor to indoor navigation and using location-based data to guide to user inside the building to their ultimate destination.

The system bears a striking resemblance to Microsoft’s 2019 vision which can be seen in the video after the break (fast forward to around 2:10 mark).

Unlike Microsoft’s system the Nokia system is however real and somewhat tested, as can be seen in a real life demo video, also after the break.

One of the key features on the Microsoft/Nokia deal is around technology sharing, especially around navigation, so it is certainly possible we will see a system like this eventually make its way to Windows Phone, especially if Nokia and Microsoft together have the patents around the technology locked up.
