The Windows 8 store’s greatest enemy has always been obscurity, with poor awareness and uptake by hundreds of millions of Windows 8 users, which did not help the cause for universal apps on Windows Phone.
Now, as revealed at Build 2015 earlier this year, websites will be able to earn commission from the sale of Windows (and Windows 10 Mobile) apps, giving them an incentive to promote Windows apps where otherwise they may have ignored them.
Microsoft is offering up to 10% of the sales price of an app even if purchased up to 14 days after the link was clicked. Hopefully this will result in a significantly higher profile for the store, which should help Windows phones tremendously.
