Wattpad is a platform for free stories and books written by aspiring authors.

The service has an ereader app which lets you download stories and follow them as they were written chapter by chapter, connect with writers and other readers and even contribute your own stories.

Their collection includes thousands of stories covering from popular romance, fanfic, non-fiction, to mystery, fantasy and sci-fi.

Unfortunately the service does not have a Windows Phone app, but it seems there is some hope, as the company has been teasing Windows Phone users with “exciting news“.

Wattpad did not give any idea for a time-line, but the unprompted tweet suggests it will not be too long.

Update: That was fast! The app is now available in the store. The app lets you:

  • Free stories and books written by published and aspiring authors
  • Search popular genres and unique topics to find any story you can imagine
  • Follow stories as they are written, get updates for new chapters
  • Connect with writers and other readers. Leave comments on stories and discuss the newest plot twists!
  • Save to your library and share what you’re reading with your friends
  • Write your own stories. Share your writing with the supportive Wattpad community

It features:

  • Download stories and books to the app so you can read offline
  • Personalized recommendations of stories to read
  • Stay connected to your stories with a newsfeed of updates and comments from friends
  • Sync all your stories and ebooks between your phone, tablet, and computer
