Watch Microsoft Chief Legal Officer Brad Smith’s Opening Remarks Before The House Judiciary Hearing

Brad Smith, at Microsoft yesterday testified before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee Hearing on “International Conflicts of Law and their Implications for Cross Border Data Requests by Law Enforcement.” Watch his opening remarks in the above video.

In his testimony, Smith made the case that the increasing use by governments of unilateral legal process – rather than international process – to obtain digital data is creating real problems and these problems are quickly getting worse.

Brad Smith told congressional committee that Microsoft “wholeheartedly supports Apple” in its case against FBI related to iPhone encryption. He also revealed that Microsoft will be filing amicus brief for Apple next week. Watch Brad Smith talk about Apple’s case against FBI in the video below.
