Video of new tiles in WP8 start screen

Windows Phone 8 (and 7.8) will have some brand new tiles for messaging, calendar, email, music + videos, and more.

These tiles finally display more information, and are far more live. The new calendar tile will slide through your upcoming appointments instead of just displaying one static appointment. The Music + Videos tile has a new Zune-like animation on it with text saying “Music + Video” flowing over the artist’s picture.

And more importantly, the messaging and email tiles can actually display your messages right on the start screen if you make them full width! You can instantly read a preview of the messages without even having to open the apps.

Another really neat tile we saw was the new Nokia Drive tile… it actually displays your next turn with a map icon right on your start screen. This all seems to be possible thanks to the new location multitasking in WP8, which allows location apps to continue to run in the background while providing navigation and other services.
