We knew Bestbuy will be selling the HTC Touch Diamond unlocked, but expected it would just be the European version with tweaked bands. It turns out the device is actually significantly different, and has more in common with the Sprint CDMA version than the European version. The device is significantly thicker, to accommodate a larger 1340 mAh battery, and features a soft-touch battery cover, though still with a faceted back. It also lacks the FM Radio from the European version.
MobileTechReview has been giving the device a going over, and reports TouchFlo3D performance is very good, even “iPhone-like” in its smoothness. They like the device overall and conclude:
So far, the prognosis is very good. The US version is faster than the original Euro import, it has a higher capacity battery, a grippy back that doesn’t attract fingerprints and best of all it supports AT&T’s US 3G HSDPA network. It’s hard not to look a phone this attractive, with a stunning VGA display, enjoyable user interface and 4 gigs of storage. Stay tuned for our final review in the coming days.
