With impeccable timing, Reuters today reports that the U.S. Justice Department may probe Apple for possible antitrust violations and anti-competitive behaviour.

The probe is part of a broader review of technology giants, with the Justice Department investigating Apple and Google, and the FTC looking at Amazon.com Inc and Facebook Inc.

Apple is currently being targetted in USA and Europe with antitrust complaints by Spotify and also a class action suit addressing its App Store iOS monopoly.

It is not clear what issue the DoJ will be looking into, but Apple has defended the tight control of their platform, saying “Our users trust Apple – and that trust is critical to how we operate a fair, competitive store for developer app distribution.”
