Urban Dictionary 7: it’s sick

Urban Dictionary is a website where people view and submit definitions to slang and other popular sayings which typically have interesting connotations stretching far beyond normal. Although this is a simple and free Urban Dictionary viewing app, it is extremely well developed and a great example of what Windows Phone apps should be like.

Every result from Urban Dictionary is pre-cached in the background while you are looking at other things in the app. Say you search for “Facebook”, and 10 results show up. When you click a result, it opens instantly, because the app cached the data before while you were deciding on which one to click! This gives you a really fluid experience and makes the app seem like the fastest app out there. In the future, it would be awesome if every app used this system of pre-caching, since it would make browsing everything a lot faster. Also, the app follows the Windows Phone design elements perfectly, and looks great even with an advertisement at the bottom.

With Urban Dictionary 7, you can view the Urban Dictionary word of the day, see the popular words, view the year’s best words, favorite words, and search for your own. You can also send definitions via E-Mail or Facebook, however the Facebook integration is broken and only posts the Word of the Day. Another missing feature is the Random feature of Urban Dictionary. With the website, you can view random definitions to get a good laugh when you don’t know of anything to search, but the app lacks this feature.
