Lionel Raynaud, VP of creative at Ubisoft said that Ubisoft isn’t abandoning the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 anytime soon few months back. But now, Ubisoft Chief Executive Officer Yves Guillemot has revealed that Ubisoft will stop developing games for Xbox 360 and PS3 after 2015.

“What we see is that this year is still fine for the PS3 and 360. But next year because they are selling very quickly, we’ll move to the new hardware. After 2015, it will be hard for us to create games for those systems,” Guillemot explains.

I think it is too early to dismiss the market value of last generation consoles that includes Xbox 360 and PS3. With a huge install base of over 150 million units, developing games for these platforms should be profitable enough. Also, Ubisoft is planning to capitalize only on the next generation gaming platforms Xbox One and PS4 which have sold over 17 million units so far since their release.

What do you think of Ubisoft’s decision?
