U-verse Mobile demoed on the Samsung Focus, makes a case for the HTC Surround

On October 15th AT&T and Microsoft announced the launch of U-verse Mobile for Windows Phone 7 devices.  U-Verse is based on Microsoft’s Mediaroom platform,  and is a 100 percent Internet Protocol-based television (IPTV) solution.

Beginning in November, the U-verse Mobile app will be preloaded on all AT&T wireless Windows Phone 7 devices – whether or not they are a U-verse TV customer – allowing users to download and watch hit TV shows while they’re on the go.

For all AT&T U-verse TV customers, U-verse Mobile lets them manage DVR recordings; customers with qualifying TV plans get the download and watch capability included at no extra charge. AT&T Windows Phone 7 users without a qualifying U-verse TV plan will be able to subscribe to download and watch with U-verse Mobile for $9.99 per month.

Users can browse or search a library of downloadable shows, and select which series or specific episode they want to download over Wi-Fi.

The above video by Engadget shows the software in action on the Samsung Focus, but for existing U-verse subscribers this may make a very good case for buying the HTC Surround, which would make an ideal platform for watching media on the go, essentially for free.
