Torrent Remote now live in Marketplace

Torrent Remote is a Windows Phone 7 application that allows you to remotely connect to a utorrent client running on your pc. With Torrent Remote one can start, stop, pause, change settings, and add new torrents.

The application provides an interesting test for Microsoft’s Marketplace policies.  While the software is not a torrent client itself, the association between the software, torrents, and piracy is clearly very strong.

When faced by a similar challenge Apple, after a 4 month review process, rejected the app, saying:

“We’ve reviewed µMonitor and determined that we cannot post this version of your application to the App Store at this time because this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights. We have chosen to not publish this type of application to the App Store,”

After a detour via Cydia, the software ultimately went the web application way, the only route Apple has so far not decided to control.
