This simple text message will crash an iPhone


Now we are not above the pettiness of seeing the competition in discomfort, and such a opportunity has just come up.

It seems Apple iMessage has a bug which means a “magic string” of characters can disable the app and even cause your iPhone to reboot when its received over SMS or iMessage.

Simple sending:


will crash the handset, with the app only recoverable if the sender sends a reply and bumps that message from the last position.

Of course Windows Phone users know that around 3 years ago we had a similar bug, but fortunately it was never weaponized. 

Unfortunately iPhone users are not as lucky…
