Our readers on the Developer Preview will well know the frustration of having the latest software on their phones, but not being able to use all the features (such as Bluetooth Low Energy for example) due to not having the latest firmware.
Now after the Lumia Cyan update has rolled out to the majority of users we have started the cycle again, with Lumia Denim bringing some great camera related features, including much needed quicker camera start up and shot to shot times.
The Developer Preview has been great, despite the hiccups in delivering Lumia Cyan. I think all those who used it understand that they are taking a risk with their device and data, and can not complain much if something goes wrong.
If Microsoft extended the Preview program to include firmware I would be one of the first to sign up. It seems I am not alone, with Farhad on UserVoice having gathered 96 votes for his suggestion “Developer preview firmware for Lumia”.
Developer Preview should also allow firmware updates for the Lumia line. Having the firmware available will be useful for “developers” as well as actual developers who will be able to test their code on the final product with the firmware.
This can already be done with the main windows os so why not with windows phone as well.
If you support the suggestion, add your vote at the UserVoice site, which Microsoft actually does pay active attention to, here.
