The Steve Ballmer keynote just finished in Las vegas did not produce much new information of note. Nothing was said about the next version of Windows Mobile, except that IE6 Mobile was coming “some time this year” (demonstrated on a Treo Pro). There was also no mention of Zune for Windows Mobile.
The only titbit of note was that WM sold 20 million devices in the last 12 months past. Overall, while a lot was said about mobility, there was not much information about the future of Windows Mobile.
This is not necessarily significant – the main forum for mobile phone announcements is 3GSM in Barcelona in February, but considering the high profile of Windows Mobile in the keynote, and also the updates to other systems and services like Windows 7 and Live, it is disappointing.
