SteamVR for Windows Mixed Reality headsets now available

As we reported a week ago, access to SteamVR for Windows Mixed Reality users has become broadly available today.

The feature offers Windows Mixed Reality headset owners more than 2000 titles, greatly expanding the library of games and apps WMR users have access to.

As Valve’s Joe Ludwig said “Working with Microsoft to include SteamVR compatibility with these devices is also a big step in growing VR as an open platform for developers and consumers. With a broad range of hardware options available from leading PC manufacturers, the Steam community will have more choice than ever to experience the amazing potential of VR.”

SteamVR games are intended for somewhat beefy hardware, and Microsoft suggests for the best experience, a PC with a GTX 1070 graphics card (or equivalent) and an Intel Core™ i7 processor.

Notably, the experience can still be significantly improved, in stat users are not able to launch SteamVR games directly from the Cliff House. Microsoft does, however, emphasize that the current product is still an open beta, with improvements presumably to come.
