Update: Aside from the details about the game, State of Decay 2 may launch on January 17, 2018 according to a retailer listing which has since been removed. We don’t have an official release date yet but we’ll keep you posted as soon as we know more.
State of Decay 2 is an upcoming Microsoft exclusive which focuses on surviving the stereotypical zombie apocalypse. However, the game is much deeper than other titles because it features base building, recruiting and other elements. The game is coming out later this year and that hasn’t stopped new details from appearing online. Today, Sanya Weathers, the Community Director at Undead Labs, said that State of Decay 2 would contain 3 maps at launch. She wrote:
“We’re finally far enough along that I can safely tell you: We are launching with THREE maps. Each roughly the size of the original. You should expect to see slightly different environments, definitely different landmarks and locations, different layouts lending themselves to different strategies, unique home sites, and even different mission types.”
Different maps are necessary because repeating the same quests on the same maps can get tiring. Hopefully the game will be a significant improvement over the previous title. The developers need to show us gameplay at this point because E3 2017 is almost here. There’s no way they can showcase the title for 30 minutes on stage so they should have a separate stream. Complex games like State of Decay 2 need a lot of explaining so gamers are familiar with the mechanics upon release.
