In a Reddit AMA two days ago, Andrey Doronichev, Director of Product for Google Stadia, revealed some more details about the Stadia Pro subscription.

However, these details appear to place the Stadia’s subscription service below that of similar services, such as Xbox Live Gold, PlayStation Plus, or even Nintendo Switch Online.

During the AMA, Doronichev stated that Stadia Pro is not “Netflix for games” as some people have called it. Instead, a more apt comparison would be that Stadia Pro is “like Xbox Live Gold or PlayStation Plus.”

Doronichev continued by pointing out that the Pro subscribers get 4K/HDR streaming, 5.1 sound, exclusive discounts, and access to some free games per month.

So just how many free games will Pro subscribers get each month, exactly? The answer: one.

In fact, Doronichev clarified that Pro subscribers will get “roughly one free game per month give or take.”

That means that, theoretically, some months, subscribers may get two. And other times, they might get none at all.

In comparison, PlayStation Plus offers, on average, two games per month. Since PS Plus stopped offering PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita games, the service has offered two PlayStation 4 games each month.

Occasionally, you’ll get lucky, such as this July, when subscribers wound up with three free games thanks to a loophole. Subscribers were offered Horizon Chase Turbo and Detroit: Become Human Digital Deluxe Edition, the latter of which also contained a free download for Heavy Rain.

Nintendo Switch Online, on the other hand, technically offers no free Switch games. However, there’s an entire library of NES games for subscribers to browse, with more retro classics added each month.

There’s also Tetris 99, which is a free game exclusively for Nintendo Switch Online members.

Both of these, however, pale into nothingness when compared to Xbox Games With Gold. Each month, Xbox Live Gold members get four free games, with two Xbox One games and two Xbox 360 (or original Xbox) games in the lineup.

All the games are playable on Xbox One thanks to the backward compatibility program and, most of the time, these backward compatible games even get an overhaul thanks to the Xbox One X Enhanced program.

So, in comparison to two free games a month, an entire and constantly updated library of retro classics and a battle royale Tetris game, and four free games a month, the Stadia Pro subscription seems to be left in the dust.

There’s also the fact that Stadia Pro subscribers will still have to pay full price for games on top of the subscription price. In comparison, PS Plus and Xbox Live Gold members both get discounts on games, and Nintendo Switch Online members get exclusive special offers and discounts.

At least Stadia Pro members will get to kick off their subscription by claiming Destiny 2 for free.
