Souls-like sequel Lords of the Fallen 2 is still in development, but it’s currently suffering from massive production issues.
According to a report by Eurogamer, the game has been in production by US-based development team Defiant Studios, but development was taken back by original developers CI Games.
Allegedly, CI Games removed Defiant from the project due to “inadequate execution” of a vertical slice. CI Games claims that they asked numerous times for the vertical slice but it was of poor quality when it arrived. Developer Defiant Studios disagrees.
“We categorically disagree with the portrayal of Defiant Studios made by CI Games,” founder and managing director David Grijns told Eurogamer.
“The team that was working on CI Games’ project was comprised of exceedingly talented developers whose work we fully stand behind. Our team knows how to build quality games as is evident by their key roles in Just Cause 3, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Far Cry 5, Devil May Cry (DmC) and many other top tier projects.”
Grijns explained that he couldn’t explain more due to contractual obligations.
The original Lords of the Fallen released way back in 2014 to mixed reviews. While the title wasn’t a fantastic game, it was an intriguing budget entry in the souls-like genre. Lords of the Fallen 2 was announced last summer but it would appear we have a while to wait until it releases.
Back in 2017, Lords of the Fallen 2 was already started from scratch after CI Games fired the game’s director and reduced its scope.
