Sony PS4 Beats Microsoft Xbox One In Global Holiday Console Sales

Worldwide Consolse Sales 2014

Due to the recent price cuts, Microsoft Xbox One won the console sales numbers in the US for the holiday season against Sony PS4. But globally, Sony PS4 came ahead of Xbox One in console sales. According to the data from both these companies, Microsoft sold 6.6 million Xbox One and Xbox 360 units in the last quarter. In the same period, Sony sold 7.5 million PlayStation units. When you consider the latest gen sales alone, Sony sold 6.4 million units of PS4. For the whole of 2014, Sony sold 18.8 million PlayStation units, whereas Microsoft sold 12.1 million Xbox units.

In the earlier part of 2014, Microsoft lost the momentum due to high price against Sony’s PS4. Later, Microsoft revamped its pricing and marketing story to come back strong in the second half of 2014.
