Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan has stated that the heightened £70 RRP for new PlayStation 5 games is a “fair price” for consumers.

In an interview with The Telegraph,  Ryan was asked whether or not he believes the significantly increased price of PS5 games compared to PS4 was fair to consumers.

“Yes, yes, I do,” Ryan stated. “If you measure the hours of entertainment provided by a video game, such as Demon’s Souls compared to any other form of entertainment, I think that’s a very straightforward comparison to draw.”

Ryan was then asked about the reports that Sony was initially planning to charge more than £70 for PlayStation software before settling on the current price,  a report that Jim Ryan immediately shot down.

“I can say that that report that we were considering higher prices for first party games is categorically false,” the CEO stated.

When pressed further on the matter of exclusives from studios such as Naughty Dog also being sold at a cost of £70, the CEO said that he is “not making any predictions about anything that might or might not happen in the future”.

Jim Ryan has previously stated that the increase in retail prices is important for the growth of the industry,  all while stating that subscription services like Xbox Game Pass are ineffective.
