Snapchat has been cracking down on Windows and other third party apps for a while now, so its quite odd that weeks after reporting on the existence of the Snapchat client Specter, it remains in the store.

The very basic Snapchat client Specter, has been getting repeated updates since its early beta launch earlier this year and has just been updated to version 1.2.4.0 in the store. This update brings the ability to send video messages and swipe to open the hamburger menu.

The app has previously received updates to fix reported issues with login, improve the UI (though not by much) and marking of messages.

The most interesting thing about this app is not its basic design, nor its sparse functionality, but its very existence. For those who don’t mind spending £1.19 for using Snapchat for 1-1 chats its not too bad, but I would be surprised if it sticks around  long enough to reach 6snap’s level of quality.
