Skype for Business picked up a new update on Android, bringing some nice new features and improvements. The update does not bring anything substantial, but it does a neat new feature, as well as some security improvements. According to Microsoft, the latest update for Skype for Business now allows users to search for contacts on their device right from the app. In addition to this, the update also brings some security improvements which should be appreciated by many business users.
Here is the full changelog for the update:
Thank you for downloading the latest Skype for Business for Android update, in this version we added search for device contacts, display of Skype for Business direct inward dialing phone number, security improvements, and bug fixes.
Skype for Business is definitely in an interesting situation at the moment as Microsoft recently introduced a new product called “Microsoft Teams” which it likes to call a chat-based workspace for businesses. Microsoft Teams includes quite a lot of features you’ll find on Skype for Business, including things like the ability to start a group call or be able to schedule a meeting. Microsoft has also integrated features such as the ability to share files from OneDrive for Business, which is essentially what makes Microsoft Teams a lot similar to Skype for Business. Microsoft, however, will likely continue to support Skype for Business (and Yammer), but it’ll definitely be interesting to see if things change in the coming months or even years.
Nevertheless, if you are a Skype for Business user, you can get the latest update for the app from the Google Play Store here.
