Skydrive Player puts that 25 GB of free storage to good use

Skydrive holds the tantelizing promise of a massive hard drive for free in the cloud, but utilizing the storage on Windows Phone 7 is far from simple.

Japanese dev TakaSugi is however taking us one step closer with his SkyDrive Player for Windows Phone 7.

The software allows you to access your uploaded music files to download and listen to whenever you want.

The app is still however clearly a version 0.1, and does not support streaming or playlists, requiring the files to be downloaded first to be played. It also does not integrate in Zune in any way, but the downloaded files does remain in storage for next time.

TakaSugi is however planning to expand his work in the next version, bringing playlist support and support for multiple Live IDs.

Hopefully the work will inspire other devs to make better use of this underused resource Windows Phone 7 users get for free, rather than the limited Dropbox, which costs a pretty penny once the 2 GB line is crossed.

SkyDrive Player is free and can be found in Marketplace here.
