Site News: Changes are coming to WMPoweruser and Microsoft-News

It’s been a while since we last updated you on our internal discussions regarding the direction of the site, and we believe its time to let our loyal readers in on where we are taking WMPoweruser in the coming months. WMPoweruser one of the few high traffic sites to exclusively cover just Windows Phone and Windows Phone related news and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve so many of you every day.  As recent events have shown, times are changing, however, and we have to change with them.

For a long time now, readers may have noticed that WMPoweruser and Microsoft News were sister sites run under the MobileFirstNetwork banner. While for awhile it made sense to run them as two separate sites, WMPoweruser covering Windows Phone news and Microsoft-News covering other Microsoft news, it no longer makes sense to run it in this way. Windows Phone itself has become somewhat subservient to everything else in the world of Microsoft and it can be seen in a much better light when presented not as a standalone product, but as an accessory to Surface, Xbox and other Windows devices.

To that end, we will be merging Microsoft-News and WMPoweruser. You’ll get double the news, half the bug fixing updates and more in-depth looks at products like more popular products like Surface, Lumia and Xbox. For those users who love Windows Phone and Microsoft products but for one reason or another don’t use Windows Phones, we’ll also be covering Microsoft services on other platforms like the web and non-Windows mobile devices. However, our main focus will continue to be on Windows Phone. If there truly is One Windows and One Microsoft, it makes no sense to demarcate them arbitrarily.

Of course,  we also understand that many of our readers care a lot more about Windows 10 Mobile than Windows 10, and we will provide the ability to filter your news coverage, just like you can already do on our Settings page.

We hope to complete the merger over the next month and hope our readers bare with us during the inevitable hick-ups which tend to be unavoidable.

We are of course also happy to hear your thoughts and suggestions. Please leave them in the comments below
