Sega delays Sonic Mania as Project Sonic 2017 gets an official title

Sega shared new details about the two upcoming Sonic games at SXSW 2017. Sonic Mania was supposed to come out this spring but the publisher decided to delay it until the summer. The decision to delay the game by a few months was due to the fact that Sega wanted to polish the experience and add new enemies, new preorder bonuses, a vinyl album and the fan-favorite Flying Battery Zone level. Sonic Mania promises to be the ultimate throwback and if a delay is required to perfect the experience, so be it.

When Sega announced Sonic Mania, the company also revealed an upcoming third-person Sonic experience called Project Sonic. It looks like Project Sonic finally has a proper title. Project Sonic will be called Sonic Forces.

Sonic Forces runs on a brand-new engine called The Hedgehog Engine 2 and is still coming out during Holiday 2017. For those wondering, Sonic Forces is a reference to the battle between the forces of good and evil. Sega showed off a brief gameplay clip which you can view above. The gameplay should be published online tomorrow for everyone else.

Both Sonic Mania and Sonic Forces look like amazing games and a return to form for the franchise. No concrete release dates were provided for both titles except for the Summer 2017 and Holiday 2017 time frames. Both games are confirmed for Xbox One and PC.
