Sega confirms it’s working on Shenmue remasters

Rumours have been swirling about Shenmue I and II, and the progress –or lack thereof — regarding their impending HD remasters.

In an interview with Game Rant, Sega Europe’s John Clark, the VP of publishing appeared to confirm that the firm was actively pursuing remastering and re-releasing these titles for modern consoles, saying:

It’s something we would love to make happen, something we are trying to make happen. I think we want it to happen as much as anybody out there. Yes, it’s a serious task and it’s not a task that we’re not working on if that makes sense. It’s something we’re actively pursuing.”

It doesn’t go as far as to say it is definitely coming, but they do say that they are “not working on it”, but they are “actively pursuing it”, which sounds positive.

It’s not clear whether the game will launch on Microsoft’s consoles as opposed to the PlayStation, but seeing as the original Shenmue launched on the OG Xbox, there’s a chance that we could see this game come to the Xbox One X and the rest of the One family by summer.
