On May 22, 2025, Rare launched Sea of Thieves Season 16, with new content and its avialability to Battle.net.

Season 16 centers on Captain Flameheart’s resurgence and the Reaper’s Bones faction. Players can now undertake the faction’s first Voyages, starting with “Search for Ancient Secrets.” These missions involve collaborating with skeletons from the Order of Bone and Blade to uncover ancient sarcophagi while fending off Ancient Phantoms. Embarking on these Voyages automatically raises a Reaper’s Mark Flag, revealing the player’s ship location to others and inviting potential confrontations.

A notable addition is the Cannon of Rage, a portable weapon powered by the Chest of Rage. While it offers mobility and firepower, it risks overheating and exploding if not cooled promptly. Additionally, players can discover skeletal allies from the Order of Bone and Blade on islands. Once unearthed, these skeletons assist in combat and treasure hunting but remain bound to their island of origin.

Looking ahead, Season 16 promises more content, including a second Voyage for the Reaper’s Bones and the ability to break seals on Reaper’s Chests, potentially releasing skeleton crews to aid players.
