The SD Association is the organization responsible for the SD Memory Card format. According to 4WinMobile.com, they have made quite the announcement at CES in Las Vegas: A new format known as SDXC.
What is SDXC and what does it mean to you? Well this will be the standard for eXtra Capacity memory cards capable of storing up to 2TB of data. Yes, you read that right- 2 Terabytes of all your favorite music, pictures and video. Absolutely beautiful. Especially considering we have already reached the limit of 32GB for SDHC cards.
Read/write speeds of 104MB/s will be supported with the organization expecting an increase to 300MB/s as time goes on. Quite amazing, don’t you think?
Of course, the 2TB capacity is not expected right out of the gate, and will probably be preceeded by 64GB, 150GB and 300GB cards, but the mere fact that a 2TB memory card will become a reality sooner than later is enough to get us very excited.
The future is definitely looking bright in the way of multimedia storage on mobile devices. Are you ready? Let us know in the comments.
