Santander Cycles app for Windows Phone to be released “shortly”

Exactly a week ago we complained that Transport for London has not released an app for their cycle hiring service for Windows Phone, and was only supporting iOS and Android.

Today we have much happier news, with Transport for London now saying the app will be released soon for our own OS.

They write:

I am writing to you following your email on 11 May 2015 about our smartphone app.
A Windows compatible version is currently being developed and will be released shortly.
We appreciate your feedback and hope you continue to enjoy using the scheme.

Kind regards,

Santander Cycles

The news comes as a victory for Windows Phone users, many of who made formal complaints to Santander electronically and even via phone calls,  but is of course only possible due to the higher market share of Windows Phone in Europe, and likely due to the public service obligations of Transport for London.

However given Windows Phone’s European market share we should take the news as a call for greater activism in this region to make sure our voices are heard.

Now the only question is which app is next?

Thanks Paul for the tip.
