Samsung Omnia 7 apps hacked onto HTC devices

htcsamAs the recent Windows Phone 7 piracy brouhaha demonstrated it is possible to rip the signatures of applications which prevent them from installing on any random devices and sign them with a new signature.

Xboxmod on XDA-Developers have taken advantage of this by ripping a number of applications from the Samsung Omnia 7, including the Samsung Now Hub, re-signing it with his own certificate, which users need to install via e-mail, and then deploying the apps onto developer-unlocked devices.

Of course with all the hoops a user needs to run through it should be clear this is in fact just another form of piracy, especially with OEMs relying so much on software as a differentiating feature, which will hopefully give readers pause before they rush off to developer unlock their devices.
