It has been known for a while that Samsung is working on a smart speaker to compete with Alexa and Google Home. This was confirmed by Samsung’s CEO DJ Koh during the unveiling of Galaxy S9.
However, latest patent filing confirms that Samsung might be planning to launch a Bixby powered device with mic, camera and a display. The patent which was filed back in November and published on May 31st of this year describes a device with 7 speakers and is made up of two connected parts, one of which can swivel around 360 degrees on the other. The benefit of two connected parts allow the device to turn towards the person speaking. Apart from the rotation, mic, camera and a touch screen display, Samsung is also planning to add stylus support for Note users.
Other features will include WiFi, Bluetooth, NFC, LTE and GPS. There is no word on when the device will launch but we do expect it to launch in later half of 2018.
