Rumour: Nokia to get exclusive Windows Phone features in 2012

Via the Australian Smarthouse.com.au, we hear that Nokia’s second generation of Windows Phone 7 handsets, to be shown off at Mobile World Congress 2012 next year, will have exclusive features other OEMs do not have access to.

They write their version of the OS will include "several new software upgrades, exclusive functions for Nokia phones and software that will not be available for other manufacturers who licence the OS" , attributing the information to an un-named European source.

If true, the impact of this would largely depend on the features involved.  At present there is in fact a significant variation in features between Windows Phone 7 OEMs, with HTC for example being the only one with the “attentive phone” features, while LG is the only OEM with the very desirable DLNA component.

One can imagine Nokia wanting to maintain feature parity with their existing Symbian handsets by including for example HDMI out, which of course would be a relatively desirable feature but not one that involves fragmentation of the core experience between different OEMs.
