Reports of rogue high data usage in Windows 10 Mobile

overview

Windows 10 Mobile is a brand-new OS, and with that comes many odd bugs.  The latest issue being raised today is of rogue data usage by the phone which is causing many to go over their data caps.

Thurrott.com complains that the mysterious System process is using cellular data without any user intervention, even when the handset spends its whole day on WIFI.

On  Reddit the issue has also been raised and elicited a response from a Microsoft employee noting:

The Data team is actively investigating your reports of this issue – thanks for bringing it to my attention … As some users already noted, turning off app backup and messaging sync should help reduce the data usage you’re seeing, but if it doesn’t please let us know.

Many users are also seeing data usage attributed to their second SIM even when they have no second SIM in their dual-SIM handset, indicating that some things are certainly screwy in the Windows 10 Mobile data stack.
