Report: Steve Ballmer Has NOT Bought the L.A. Clippers Yet (Updated)

While a number of mainstream news outlets have reported the L.A. Clippers have been bought by ex-Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer for $2 billion, it appears this is untrue. Mr. Ballmer’s bid is said to be very strong and is heavily favored in the deal but the transaction has not finalized yet.

The deal will likely be finalized tomorrow. Donald Sterling’s ex-wife is currently reviewing all offers. There has been an immense amount of outrage online over the reports Mr. Ballmer would be buying the team. Many had hoped the team would be sold to an African American such as Magic Johnson or Oprah Winfrey.

Update 2 from LA Times: Ballmer bid higher than competitors that included Los Angeles-based investors Tony Ressler and Bruce Karsh and a group that included David Geffen and executives from the Guggenheim Group, the Chicago-based owner of the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Geffen group offered $1.6 billion and the Ressler-Karsh group $1.2 billion. People familiar with both those offers said they were rejected.
