Report: Nokia’s board in urgent meetings about the company’s future

Finnish newspaper Yle reports that Nokia’s board has been engaging in intensive meetings since Wednesday, though the topic of the discussion is unknown, as Nokia refused to comment.

A likely topic is the disposal of the Nokia Siemens joint venture, with Siemens intent on selling. Presumably Nokia is having to decide whether they will splash out to purchase Siemens section.

Also likely, and more interesting, would be rumours of Microsoft’s looking to purchase the handset maker, with talks said to have broken down recently.

According to newspaper Helsingin Sanomat Nokia has a 5 year exclusivity agreement with Microsoft, meaning their future is tied together until 2016.

I personally think the most likely scenario is Nokia’s board mulling over a new offer by Microsoft.  Do our readers agree? Let us know below.
