Report: Microsoft May Drop Xbox Live Gold Requirement For Netflix, Hulu And Others

Currently, Xbox console users are required to have Xbox Live Gold subscription to enjoy streaming media apps such as Netflix, Hulu and others. This situation may soon change according to the latest report from Ars. According to their, Microsoft is planning to drop the Xbox Live Gold requirement for streaming media services.

According to our sources, Xbox 360 and Xbox One users will soon no longer need a paid subscription to Xbox Live Gold to access Netflix, Hulu, and other streaming media apps.

To make up this change, Microsoft may move some other services behind the paywall to ask customers pay a premium. Microsoft is preparing a range of original content for Xbox users, users may need a Xbox Live Gold subscription to access these content. Microsoft previously said that some of the upcoming Xbox Originals will be free to view, while some may be behind the paywall. Paying $60/year for an all-in-one entertainment service seems reasonable to me. What do you think?
