Qualcomm starts shipping baseband chips for Nokia’s Windows Phones

Digitimes reports that Qualcomm has started shipping baseband chips for Nokia’s Windows Phone, with the handset shipping in Q4 2011.

The chips will be coming from Qualcomm’s ‘wafer bank’, and will not initially impact is suppliers.

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE) and Kinsus Interconnect Technology are all eventually expected to benefit from Nokia’s orders however.

There have been speculation that Nokia’s ‘Sea Ray’ handset has been delayed, but Nokia has said they “have increased confidence we will ship our first Windows Phone product this year”.

Nokia’s UK boss has called the device “absolutely stunning.”
