Firstly, many Windows Mobile users are not aware you can get free push Hotmail via Live for Windows Mobile. In fact, you can also store your contact in Microsoft’s cloud, with the only missing area being Calender, which does not sync.
However some users have been having issues with Push Hotmail not working reliably. The Live team has been investigating the issue and seemed to have found the cause. The issue only occur if you have your mail set to synchronize “As items arrive†in the “Sync schedule†settings and if you are also signed in to Windows Live Messenger on your PC and your status is “Online†or “In a callâ€.
The workaround is to have Messenger on your PC in any state other than “Online†or “In a callâ€.
So if you have disabled “Show me as Away when I’m inactive for…†and/or “Show me as Busy and block my alerts when I’m running a full-screen program…†: turn it on again (Tools > Options > Personal).
Some issues can also be resolved by signing out of Messenger on your smartphone.
The work-around is only temporary, and the Live team are working on a server-side solution as we speak.
