A bit of news which seemed to have missed the reporting cycle is that Microsoft announced two new OEMs at BUILD 2 days ago.
One is Micromax, which was one of the first new Indian OEMs rumoured to be joining the platform.
The other, lesser known brand is ASBIS’s Prestigio, who already distributes smartphones in 54 countries.
The addition of the two brings the list of Windows Phone OEMs up to 15, including:
- Nokia
- Samsung
- HTC
- LG
- ZTE
- Lenovo
- Foxconn
- Gionee
- JSR
- Karbonn
- Lava (Xolo)
- Longcheer
- Micromax
- Huawei
- Prestigio
At Mobile World Congress Microsoft said their list of OEMs produced 56% of the world’s smartphones – the addition of 2 more should add another percent or two to the list, and should bring us back to those Windows Mobile days when a new handset was being announced every week.
