DJI, the company behind the very popular Phantom drone, which is often used for commercial drone-based filming and other applications, have released an SDK for their platform which lets developers take precise programmatic control of their drone, enabling many novel applications including 3D mapping for example.
Now DJI has indicated that they expect to release an SDK for Windows Phone 8.1 soon, which should allow the commercial control of their drone from numerous Windows Phones also.
Support for Windows Phone should allow companies which have standardized on the OS to use the same phones they use for their business email to also control their drone for whatever other application they need to complete their job, such as taking aerial photographs for real estate applications to surveying a farm. Hopefully DJI will deliver on their promise soon.
