Palm is launching an on-device application store for use with their devices. The service, backed by PocketGear, appears much more attractive than the similar offering by Handango, and launches with 1500 developers on board.
Unfortunately, as is usual with Windows Mobile software stores, the developers will get only 50% of the sales from the software, but with Apple software tending to zero, and Windows Mobile software selling around $25 on average, according to Handango, developers may just be willing to swallow the smaller share of a bigger pie.
The software is available to download from PocketGear here.
Edit: Reports have been rolling in that the Palm “app store” is little more than a web page link. Rather typical of part to cheapen out on an essential component for success unfortunately.
