The Register has an interesting article sourced from conversations with OEMs and ODMs at Mobile World Congress about Windows Phone.

Apparently some have been complaining that they found the the Windows Phone department’s head, corporate vice president Terry Myerson, unresponsive.

“Myerson is Microsoft old school. He’s very much about preserving the purity of his platform,” one anonymous rep said.

They note for example that Windows Phone bugs apparently need three OEMs to demand something is fixed before it is fixed, difficult when there are really only 4 OEMs with significant activity. Also Microsoft made it clear that their schedule of developer events in the summer and consumer releases of major updates  in time for the US holiday season would continue, a pace which the Reg did not find in keeping with a OS trying to play catch-up.

The issues does not appear to be a problem for Nokia however.

When asked about other OEM concerns, Nokia’s Michael Halbherr said: “Microsoft is a very big organisation – but if I have a problem, I can phone Terry. And Terry phones me.”

While this relationship is very cosy, one wonders if this was in part what caused companies like LG and Sony Ericsson to step away from the platform.
